The Yalinguth app takes you on a First Nations audio tour through good old Fitzroy. Yalinguth is the Woiwurrung word for “yesterday”. The stories on this app educate on the significance of these streets to the First Nations people. Start on Gertrude Street and wander up to the Carlton Gardens, where you will learn about the First Nations people who stood up to the first Parliament of Australia. CARLTON GARDENS
The Carlton Gardens is a perfect spot for a picnic because of its rolling green grass, BBQs, playgrounds, fountains, ponds, skate spots, basketball/tennis courts and it’s unparalleled architecture within the city. In the middle of the gardens is the Royal Exhibition Building, inspired by the duomo in Florence, Italy, juxtaposed with the post-modernist design of the Melbourne Museum, which boasts the world’s largest IMAX Theatre screen. The Royal Exhibition Building was built for the 1880 World Expo and then in 1889, the Expo helped to build the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Be sure to check the weather first because if it’s sunny you could easily spend half a day in the gardens and if it’s not you could see something at IMAX or Melbourne Museum | Carlton St, Carlton

So, even if you can’t afford anything like us it’s still worth a look inside and you never know if there could be a sale or you might be able to get some sparkly socks or something.
